It is with great sadness that we have been informed of the passing of Keith Bury CBE, CEnv on 27 February 2023.
After a long career in the public sector from when he left school, Keith left in 1970 to persue a career in the private sector, and founded a waste management services company in the North West. When this was acquired by the Amercan firm Waste Management Ltd, he stayed on as European Director
In the mid 1990’s he stopped working full time, and became engaged as a business consultant and held various non-executive director positions, and in 1993, Keith was awarded a CBE for sevices to the waste management industry.
Keith was involved in NAWDC (National Association of Waste Disposal Contractors), which later on became the ESA for many years. Following his years of service to the ESA (being treasurer from 1989 – 1995, ESA Chairman from 1987 – 1989 and a member of their Executive Committee from 1977 – 1995), Keith was awarded an honorary life membership of ESA.
Jake Hayler, Executive Director of the ESA said:
“Everyone at ESA was very sad to hear that Keith passed away last week. He will be sorely missed.
“Keith played a very active and important role throughout his career in the industry and was heavily involved with ESA over many years. He retained his interest in the sector’s affairs and we were always pleased to see Keith in London at ESA events, most recently at our annual lunch last November.
Our thoughts are with Keith’s family and friends.”
Mr Bury, leaves a wife, Jean, two sons – Simon and Christopher – and their families.
Details of the funeral arrangements will be available in due course.
